Kelly Canyon.
Good Morning,
Unlike most of the country we are experiencing the best weather. We’ve had day after day of warm sunny weather, little wind and no rain at all in weeks. This of course is bad for the folks doing their best to fight the wildfires this year but it makes for great riding. Normally by this time of year have had hard frost and snow in the high mountains but not this year. Maybe is compensation for all the snow we got in June.
So because of this it’s been a great late summer for riding. Yesterday I went out and did one of my favorite road rides – Kelly Canyon. It’s not a long ride but the scenery is great and there are a few stiff climbs that make you use every gear on the bike. I start at my house and climb about 4 miles right out of the driveway and go up and over some sweet dirt roads and they then drop me off at Bridger Canyon road (road used to get from the town of Bozeman to Bridger Bowl ski area – I know this road very, very well!) which winds and climbs and falls for a few miles until I turn off onto Kelly Canyon road. Then, after about 200 meters it bumps up hard for the first of 3 steep steps with the final one being by far the hardest…….. I’d guess the grade is a solid 15% or so and as you near the top all you see is sky. I then crest the top and look down into the Bozeman valley and the road falling away for many winding miles. It’s rolling and twisting until it gets back to the valley floor and then I weave my way through the edge of town and back toward home on pretty flat roads. The final few miles are up hill to get back to the house but nothing like going up over Kelly.
I’ve attached a few photos from yesterday’s ride. Thanks for looking,
Dave

Hey Dave cool photos as usual. What do you use to shoot your ride photos?
Hey Parris,
Karin has a little Nikon that fits in my pocket and weighs next to nothing and I use it. It’s not great for long range stuff but it’s better than carrying a 35mm SLR!

Those photos are fabulous. The school, the roads, the landscape. I am from New York and long for the serenity of a place this this. Great blog – thank you!
