It’s Monday so this must be Belgium.

I just got this photo photo in from a repeat customer in Belgium. It’s a fillet brazed Kirk set for the rigors of commuting in Belgium – lights, fenders and all. Good stuff.

    Wow….. what a great bike!

    Dave…. when you build a “commuter” do you use / recommend a heavier tubeset than normal? Also…how important is it to coat the tubes with “Frame Saver” or the like when building a commuter?

    Hey John,

    The tubeset depends – if the rider is commuting light (keeps clothing and such at work) and isn’t carrying extra weight then the tubes can still be pretty light. If they are outfitting it with racks and bags and want to be able to carry stuff like a laptop and groceries then the tube will often get a bit beefier.

    A commuter is the same as the rest of my bikes when it comes to corrosion protection – they all get a very good treatment of stuff to prevent issues years down the road. In most cases a commuter will have fenders and will not have as much water sprayed onto it as say a race bike would……….but in either case they get the full treatment.
