Di2 Retrofit………er……..Electrofit?

A good friend of the business and customer George recently sent me his frameset back for a retrofit to work with full internal Di2 wiring. George thought maybe it wasn’t a ‘retrofit’ but instead an ‘electrofit’. I agree.

I built this frame about 7 years ago as I recall and it’s wearing very well even with all the long hard use it’s gotten. For the electrofit I first removed the old derailleur cable guides from the chainstay and head tube that would no longer be used. I then made up the reinforcing plates for the Di2 ports, cleaned the paint from the proper areas and brazed them on. Then it’s just a matter of drilling the holes and cleaning them up and the ports were done. The only thing left to do was to add the battery mount braze-ons under the non-drive chainstay and check the frame alignment and we were ready to send the frame off to JB for a repaint.

I look forward to seeing how the bike is painted the second time around and of course to get George’s report on how he likes the Di2.
